They very nearly had all foundation & SHO doctors taken from them by HEE because of how bad the rotation was, and in fairness they have made huge changes and it’s now an excellent job. No FY1s, 4-5 FY2s, couple of trust grades (who only do 9-5 on the ward), few IMTs. Generally well staffed rota, management will try and pull you to other understaffed services but seniors are pretty supportive to make sure management don’t take the mick.
Usually 5-7 patients each who you can stay looking after for the whole week so you really get to know them. If you’re moderately proactive you can get to clinic/RT/day case unit, and you have rotad time with the palliative care & acute oncology teams which are both great.
Consultant-led ward round x2 per week of their specific patients, AOS consultant/reg on call all week if you need them, and all consultants very contactable if you need any more urgent support. You have to do medical on-calls which are miserable, and the OOH rota works that you do your normal day (9-5) on oncology then 5-10 covering oncology/haematology & a gen med ward. The gen med ward is horrific and the nurses need A LOT of support, but haem/onc nurses are good & will generally do a reasonable amount of troubleshooting before calling you.
